Event Description
The ACTnet Asia‑Pacific Regional TB Journal Club will be held on Tuesday 16th June at 1:00 pm, featuring guest speaker Dr Emma Smith.
Dr Emma Smith is an infectious diseases physician at Royal Darwin Hospital. She completed her training in the UK and has extensive international experience, including work in sub‑Saharan Africa. She is currently undertaking a PhD at the Menzies School of Health Research, focusing on transforming tuberculosis care in remote Aboriginal communities.
During the session, Emma will discuss the following paper:
Three Months of Weekly Rifapentine and Isoniazid Versus Four Months of Daily Rifampicin for Tuberculosis Infection: A Randomized Controlled Trial - https://academic.oup.com/cid/advance-article/doi/10.1093/cid/ciag306/8678684
Emma will examine whether a weekly 3‑month rifapentine–isoniazid regimen (3HP), supported by SMS reminders, leads to higher treatment completion compared with a 4‑month daily rifampicin regimen (4RIF), and will consider how the two approaches compare in terms of safety and effectiveness in improving adherence.
